It all started when I read this article. Then, I browse through the issue 1 of Make, and found an interesting article to convert a DVD into an mpeg file that could be played on a palm, on page 135. Handbrake was what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I do not have a Mac; so, I downloaded the sources on my linux box, and tried to compile it. For that, I needed , a utility called jamjam. So I'm on my way the jam WEB site. jam did not exist compiled for my linux box. So, I decide to download the sources. I could not find a compressed file with all the sources, and since I did not want to click on the 40 sources or so listed on the ftp source directory, I started to look for an ftp client ...etc ... etc...
Two days later (not full time though), I had Handbrake compiled on my linux (took me a while to discover that gtk2HB was the name of the actual executable...)
Yesterday, I started Handbrake on a brand new Shrek 1 zone 2 DVD. Guess what, it does not like it. I'll tell you more when I figure out what's wrong. Until then, I'll keep shaving the yak...

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed this article. To know that my symptoms have a name and that there are other yak shavers out there. I thought it was heridtary (sp) and that I got this from my mother ;)
